MORE ABOUT

DOUG McSCHOOLER

I have been a photojournalist for decades. While my recent workload has gravitated toward sports coverage, my true passion is covering general news assignments that impact people's lives. Throughout my career, I have had opportunities to witness a breadth of human emotions — some humbling, many uplifting, too many haunting. It's through these experiences that I have been able to arm myself with the tools necessary to approach situations with a mature, non-judgmental, attitude that allows me to accurately and ethicallyx` document life around me.

PHOTOJOURNALIST

First and foremost I am a journalist. In all of my disciplines of creativity I employ the most staunch level of ethics I can muster. However, I subscribe to the National Press Photographer's Association Code of Ethics.

TRAVEL PHOTOGRAPHER

Finding the iconic view, captured from a vantage point that evokes readers to dream of seeking out the location to visit is a driving component of my work. While advance research is integral in any successful shoot, being open to last-minute pivots is equally as important.

SPORTS PHOTOGRAPHER

Sports photography is more than just capturing a moment of action. It's about capturing the moment, the game-changing moment. There are so many adjectives that are used in the description of action. And they all apply to so many of my images.

DESIGNER

Early in my career I realized that while I was composing images inside my camera's viewfinder, I could see how the image would work within the pages of newspapers, magazines  and websites. The ability to create compelling design projects that deliver the client's message quickly and concisely is a paramount goal of mine.

My career began in the early 1980s. Long before color photography was a daily occurance in newspapers. Black-and-white photography—the same style that is emulated with filters today—is how I learned. Hours spent in the darkroom developing film and making prints has paid off in my ability to re-create that classic look.
